The new wave of sophisticated Mexican cuisine has arrived in West London.
Mexican food has suffered from a terrible culinary reputation in the UK, with the dreaded 'Tex Mex' evoking visions of cheap sombreros, ersatz tequila and the barely digestible microwaved disasters. If you want to find out just how much this has changed, for the better, try the newly-opened Peyotito on Kensington Park Road.
This hidden gem brings guests into a sleek hideaway welcomed by a neon sign quoting ‘tequila is to wake the living, Mezcal is to wake the dead’, setting a playful but contemporary atmosphere.
An unusual moulded concrete bar caters to those who want to sample the eponymous Peyotito tequila cocktail with some nibbles, or book a table at the back of the restaurant amongst the exposed brick and retractable skylights.
For late night diners, the lights are dimmed and a DJ ensures the guests enjoy themselves through dinner, into cocktails and well into the night. For those wishing to celebrate in a more intimate environment a private dining room is available to seat up to 12 people.
Peyotito offers a contemporary and refined Mexican menu, set in a light, intimate and casual surroundings. Playing with Mexican classics, Peyotito is open for lunch and dinner throughout the week with the added option of brunch at the weekends. Executive Chef, Eduardo Garcia, the acclaimed chef of Maximo Bistrot, has created Peyotito’s menu, which boasts elegant dishes based on a sharing concept around main themes including: Ensaladas, Crudos, Ceviche, Moles and Maza. The menu offers fresh and predominantly gluten- and dairy-free fare, highlights include: Pulpo a la Mexicana, shaved octopus, salsa Mexicana, lime and house made calamato; Taco de barbacoa, braised English lamb served with salsa de chile guajilio and Tostada de Atun, yellowfin Tuna, salsa macha and guacamole puree.
